well i finally got sick of digging clad, so i decided to get a couple of old books on the history of my town and low and behold..........there was an amusement park VERY close to where i live at the turn of the century! now i just need to find the exact location. i believe that much of this site is paved over but there are a few grassy areas that i can start with. there is also a park nearby that only consists of very deep and very old woods.could this be the site? i guess at this point i need to make a trip to the historical society library and try to see if my hunch on the location is right.hopefully my hunch is wrong and the park really was located in those woods! even if it isn't and much of it is under pavement there are still a few small grassy areas i could hit.it would be a long shot for sure but unless you knew the history of the site, you would never ever think to detect them.maybe i would be the first! i will update my progress!

thanks for the tip shermanville! i will check that out. the park opened in 1916 so i imagine that it was an electric park.i already have one photo of it but i cant see any land marks in it. it doesnt really help much. i am really amazed that this park even existed! i have lived in this town my whole life and had never even heard of it being mentioned. the corner it was on now looks pretty much like any other corner in town. i doubt many people remember it. hopefully some of this research will pan out.i am really jonesing for some old coins!!

Depending on what town your in you might pull up some old town maps on the net or the historical society should have a map of the old town lay out.
If no luck there then try the county historical soc.
Your next bet will be a map archives at a collage or in a state archives building .there you WILL find maps of your town for different years and that should show the park you need.

Good luck

thanks red! thats exactly what i need .......a map of the area in or around 1920. i will have to look into it.

Hey HPR. Old Maps ....I love 'em. go to www.loc.gov. The library of congress website. I have gotten great maps of my area. Some of the corps of engineer maps even show old mines on them. That's how I found my first "spot 'o gold". They are called SID maps. You download a small program and that's it. They are VERY detailed. And don't forget "terra client" with its topo overlays. Together, they are a fantastic hunting tool. Good luck and remember.....Post those pics. I have alot that I've been saving and will be posting soon.

thanks tow! very usefull info. this site rules!!
