Thats a pretty scarce note.Even with the torn/missing piece,I wouldn't say you paid too much.Here's one that sold for $546.25 in fine condition-

it's "ripped" no matter how you look at it and that makes it non desirable to collectors

Lonewolf is right sort of.It's worth about what you paid,maybe a few dollars more but not too much.I will say however that if this were an 1849 series (a very rare note),even with the damage it would be worth at least 10 times what you paid for it,probably more.Sometimes when it comes to rare notes,the rarity will overide the condition.Here's a 1849 $2 Bank of Fayetteville note from N.C. that sold for $718.75.The previous owner of this note searched for several decades to find a better example and never did.Note the many pinholes and the repairs to this note.
