Not 5 blocks from our last house there is the site of an old fort built in 1850. It had never been worked and man I was itching to get on the site as you can imagine. The same family that had built the fort still owned the place. No one had ever been there to MD. There was a fruit orchard covering most of it. Every year I would see the trees loaded with fruit that went unpicked. As it would happen the daughter of a woman who was a care giver to the elderly owner moved in next door to me. I asked her if she could get me permission to pick some of the fruit that went to waste every year. I thought that I could get to know the owner that way. No way she was going to allow anyone in there and risk an injury suit. Before I could get her to ask about my going in to MD there was aother developement.

Act 2: The property is sold to a local developer that a friend of mine at work knew. I asked him to see if he could get us permission, he said that he tried and was refused for this reason: If you find anything then the state may halt my construction project while they conduct studies and I can not afford to have that happen.

Well now it's a bunch of apartment buildings at least I gave it a shot. It is pretty sad that people feel the need to be so fearful now days. It's the whiners and lawsuit happy ones that have control now. I suppose that the lawyers are happy and making a lot of money but I am disgusted with it.

Sorry to hear about your turn of events, I know it makes you cringe to know that there was probably some pretty good stuff just lurking below the surface of that old fort. Sometimes thats just how things turn out. I'm certain that the next place you search will be quite fruitful!!

Happy Hunting!!
