Timberwolf, keep finding spots.....I'll get there one of these days...LOL

Noticed you don't have anything for Garfield County...or did I miss it? Would love for you to find some good spots for me in Garfield County or Grant County so that when I do make it back to Enid, you and I can hit some spots.

Hey Mel,

Nice to hear from you.
If you didn't see Grant or Garfield counties listed...then I don't have any leads for them in my database.

Not to worry though....I have a great place over at Jefferson that we can probably hunt. Havn't been there in a few years, but if the same farmer still owns the property...we will be in business :) ;) :D ;D

Tom

Thanks. I still want to MD the farms that my grandpa farmed (near Wakita)....my uncle and cousin still farm them. Looks like it will be next year before I get back to OK......still not out of the woods yet with the wife's health problems.

Looking at your leads..........hmmmm......my hands are already itching.

I found two watch fobs in the field I want to take you to ;D

We will keep your Mrs in our prayers.

WOW...those look really neat! Definitely looking forward to getting out there ...just don't know when it will happen.

Gayle will go in for another 1 day "procedure" sometime in December to see what healing progress has been made and to determine whether or not they can safely attack the kidney stones or not. She is still one sick lady....never seen her like this before.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

How about Sewell's Stockade: Located about 3/4 mile south of Jefferson and then 3/4 mile east. Built by a settler named Sewell for protection from Indian mourning and war parties. It became a rest stop for trail drivers. Built in the early 1870's, nothing remains but a monument.

Stoney,

Been there :)
There are several spots near there that are likely "good" places to hunt.
The Chisholm Trail passes by Jefferson on the west side ;)

You might look around, I think there was a ghost town between Jefferson and Pond Creek. My brother has an autographed book w/pics of Jefferson and Twin Ponds (not sure if that's the name though).

I think Pond Creek is the old Twin Ponds.....I might be wrong, but I seem to remember reading something about that somewhere.

I was thinking that the town was moved and with it the name change. ???

Mel, I stand corrected and confused---I believe the other one was Round Pond, not Twin Ponds.

From the Pond Creek Echo newspaper of Oct. 1893

October 20, 1893

It seems that by some misunderstanding the post office at Round Pond has been given the name of Pond Creek by the post office department at Washington. The name is not so euphonious that Pond Creek would care to retain it, but that has been the name of the stream here for years and the station has bee called that since the railroad was built. The name Pond Creek applied to this place is known near and far and any attempt to call the county seat by that name would only result in the wildest confusion, as the name of Pond Creek will cling to this town what ever the post office may be called. This place has been widely advertised as Pond Creek and it is proper that ti should reap the benefits of such a reputation. Round Pond likewise has received more advertising through the press reports as the county seat of L County then will be given to her again. It would not only be better for Pond Creek proper that she should retain the original name but Round Pond, the county seat, would derive the same beneficial results should its post office conform to the first name given to the county seat.;

The consensus of opinion here at Pond Creek proper is that the matter in all its phases should be properly laid before the Postal Department at Washington, and should it be done the Echo is sanguine that the name of the post office at each place would conform to the respective name of the town.

Stoney,

I also happened to find an old obit that indicated the gentleman's family settled in Twin Ponds...near Ardmore. So, apparently Twin Ponds was near Ardmore. So, I stand corrected.
