Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Greetings, I'm totally new to the treasure hunting crowd, I've always loved the idea of finding lost relics of the past.
I'm not anything close to a history buff but I do like ancient history, times before modern man. However I've recently purchased a tiny bit of acreage that's making me scratch my head.
The property is bisected by a wide and deep creek, and another probably 30' deep creek along the eastern border dipping into and out of the property, the land itself is also ridiculously hilly and bumpy, there are 2 huge mounds of earth taller than I am with 2 foot wide trees growing out of the top of, meaning they probably weren't simply dirt moved to create the farm land. They remind me of native american burial mounds.
the creeks all at one time flowed into the Deep Fork river but mostly got cut off by the building of farmland and roads.
The eastern creek has sides that are quite literally straight down and might be impossible to scale without climbing gear or a huge ladder. I will be exploring them as soon as I have the chance. They are the main reason I bought the property, I've always wanted nice geography to explore and as deep as the creeks are and close to the river I figure there might be a good chance of finding native american or Spanish artifacts. I will not be digging around or even going near the mounds but the creeks and flat areas are itching to be explored closely. I will be purchasing a modest metal detector as soon as my budget allows but untill then I have a good eye for non-naturally occurring signs. Once the heat slackens off I'll begin my adventure.
I'm curious as how some of you come across old maps and where you find your tales about certain areas. I would like to do research on the area to find some possible history to the property but I have no clue as where to start.
Not sure why I get excited about the possibility of hidden artifacts and perhaps Spanish treasures, maybe my last name being Morgan has something to do with it? hah

Don't know what part of Oklahoma you are in, but the university in Norman(and it kills me to say this)has a fantastic library where you can look at maps, ownership, things that took place and general history of your area. Go to Special Collections and the staff will assist you. Do some regular online research to get a feel of what went on in your area and check with your nearest city or town to find a list of previous property owners, history, county maps and so on. Whatever you do don't waste money on a red and white t-shirt with OU(oh who?) on it and don't be too surprised to find a couple of old Trans-Ams buried in the creeks that Switzer planned to buy a couple more players with and Stoops might still want to use. Hook em!

Welcome 13Morgan from a transplanted red dirt Oklahoman now here in Summit County, CO. Get out in the field, be observant and explore. austin down there in Baja Oklahoma is dead on about the OU library. Apparently a couple of sentences after that the Lone Star kicked in and he drifted. Didn't mean to rag on ya, austin. I'm 1/8 Texan. Got a nephew down there in Texas A&M. (Well every family has those 'free thinkers', I guess) I know what y'all could do, austin, have your universities start up football teams, and play against other states, and----Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't notice y'all already had that sorta thang goin on. (I typed slower for you austin) Boomer Sooner!

Hey 13Morgan. Welcome to the Net! As the owner of the property, you have the legal right to "turn it inside out". But do you really want to? It would be exciting to find OLD STUFF from those mounds! I will just say, though, DON'T post any exceptional finds here or anywhere else. Although legally able to dig the mounds, you may not wish to get all the POPULARITY (or should I say UNpopularity) with certain groups that comes with any posts made of artifacts found. Good luck... invite me to the dig! TTC
