I have been fortunate enough to hunt the site of one of the oldest plantation sites in Louisiana. It dates back to before the 1850s.
I have found several interesting artifacts..36 cal. Colt trigger guard and watch fobs and of course bullets of different calibre.
This is the item that has me puzzled. I think it is probably post 1900.
2-1/2 inches in diameter.
Up to 1/2 inch thick.
I am thinking it may be some sort of lid to a item of machinery.
It was about 3 inches deep.
Heavy brass in composition.
No marks of any kind.
No numbers.
Maybe some of the engineers out there recognise it?

I need to look for the patent dg. I believe its half of a replacable gate from a large water gate valve.
