All I got is the Association of American Physicians took place in Atlantic City on that date. The AAP was founded in 1885. http://aap-online.org/ But I cant find a connection. Any markings at all on the back?

I think its linked to this event, maybe?

National Woman's Party Suffrage Campaign - Suffrage parade, New York City, May 6, 1912.

I am not so sure the Suffrage movement would use the imagery of a woman lounging on the beach, would they?

Why not, it was all about freedom to do...

The trident represents the three paths to self-realization, namely the path of knowledge, the path of action and the path of devotion.
The dove represents peace. Sounds like a design for the woman's suffrage to me.

Is it a wooden pulley under 'May'? Also may be dirt but looks like a 's' or '5' on the pulley.

Is the 'scale object' attached to the rope or is it an anchor/shield laying underneath?

Can't seem to find any badges/pendants/medallions that looks like this piece.

Could it be that the plate was affixed to an object (trophy or similar) that could explain it better?

Maybe the missing portion of the plate is holding the best clue ;D

Still not sure what the scale thing is. Some sort of horn/flask?
