Ok, CRH'ers - Fill Me In

Ok, I've been looking at this coin roll hunting but maybe you all can fill me in a little more.....

1. What constitutes a 40%er, 90%er, etc that I keep reading about on here?

2. Are there key dates that you're looking for when you go through a roll of coins? How do you know which ones to pull out and keep?

3. Does the bank charge you more than face value for the rolls of coins?

4. When you turn them back in, does the bank gripe about it?

5. Do some banks have better odds of scoring a good coin than others?

6. Anything else you can tell me would be appreciated.

Thanks,

3.: No

4: Yes & No. Find a branch with a free coin counter machine.

5: Ask your bank to order you some $500 boxes - there should be no charge, may take a week to get them. Out-of-the-way banks that get less traffic may have older halves stored in the vault.

6: Competition is rampant! Make friends with your tellers and they may set aside some keepers for you.

When you find a counting machine- make sure it counts half dollars. One of my supply banks doesn't. HH Mark

Also, test the machine with a handful of your rejects. Not all machines are calibrated right and you will lose money. Trust me, I know :-[ Good luck and jump on-board!

Agreed. I counted my rejects for the first five or so times when I found a new bank with a coin counter. Each time it was 100% accurate so now I feel pretty confident when I cash my rejects in. I hope you find a good coin counter like I found. Best wishes with your searches and I hope you don't get sucked into the addiction that is known as coin roll hunting. 8)

Re: Ok, CRH'ers - Fill Me In

I got a $500 box yesterday. I take them, loose, to a casino to cash them in. These were all 2001's so I didn't keep any of the coins and I didn't add any when I put them in the canvas bag. I hand counted each roll. Some were a coin short and others a coin over. Bottom line is I counted $501.50 (3 extra halves) When I had them counted at the casino they also got $501.50. Apparently the rolling machines aren't perfect.
