Downriver from Ironton at or near Union Landing (not on modern maps) was located a small French trading post or station. This station is unknown to the Ohio State Historical Society. The first settlers (circa 1790 - 1800) discovered numerous (and anomalous) artifacts at the location. These included large concentrations (once bags or baskets) of musket balls. The story told to me was that gold had been deposited in a well at the site and was actually seen around 1920. LIDAR data does indicate buried structures at what is now farm field.

There was a French grant near Haverhill...could it be the same thing? There is also an old Fort near the river, a friend had found burnt posts in a formation, lots of arrowheads too. Its just west of the Dow chemical plant.
