Spent the afternoon hunting Wildwood's fabled beach. I was walking along finding a few clad pieces and this maintenance guy pulls up in his truck. I'm thinking, what am I gonna get hassled or something. But no, the guy actually wanted to give me a tip. He told me that other detectorists were finding silver coins in the big pile of sand that was removed from under the boardwalk and I should check it out. I thanked him and proceeded to the big pile of sand. The first thing I found on the side of the pile was a bicentennial half dollar. Then I found a couple clad pieces and a boardwalk token laying right on top of the sand. Near the bottom of the side of the pile I found a 1951 Roosevelt Dime. I'm thinking, wow, the guy was right. There was silver in the sand. However, that was the only silver piece I found in the pile of sand. But, I did find a couple more silvers in the sand leading up to the pile. They must have fallen off the vehicle that was carrying the sand to the pile. One was a beautiful 1953-D Washington Quarter and the other was a 1936 Mercury Dime. I also found some more acrade tokens, a prayer medal and a chewed-up good luck piece. Also found quite a few clad quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies in the flat sand. All in all, a pretty good day.
