The winter blues have set in :( . Probably won't get out for another 3 1/2 months or so. The only thing keeping me sane is treasure net and doing some research for next year for some good sites. Anybody got any helpful research tips?

Nice to meet you, i have the winter blues. i am so Bord!!! I found this sight by a friend i just wanted a good treasure hunting mag. this sight has more to look at than i thought. I cannot wait to get my first west and eastern mag. the only thing i think about is metal-detecting. I think i need to find a support group to help me get threw the winter. In the summer metal-detecting and work is the only thing i do. I no longer hunt or fish. I would metal-detect for a living if i could get paid for it. now that would be a dream job!!! I can detect from daylight to dark without eating and hitting a restroom after about 6 hours if i can not stand it any more. My wife does not seem to mind she likes to have the house to herself,i get in the way of her cleaning. she likes to turn the boom box up and jam. I must be getting to old i dont like loud music. well i cant wait until spring, this sight will help me get threw the winter so if no one hears from me this summer i will be out with the detector finding the treasures other people have missed. I hope this summer i will find my first gold coin. i will share that story with every one. I will not be able to stop talking about it. seeyou later keep on this sight you will pass the days by faster.

Welcome to Tnet. There is plenty of topics on here to keep you busy for a few months.
Well I know the feeling but I don't have the winter blues today, its in the 70's and clear skies. I just have several Christmases to go to today or I would be out hunting. I plan on getting out on the 26th for some good hunting. Its supposed to be nice here for the rest of the week.
Happy holidays :) and dont let the blues get to you.

Has anyone tried one of those "light boxes" to beat the winter blues. They dont give out harmful rays, just day light. Perhaps one of you technical minded Gents can enlighten me about those "rays". Have heard they are very good.

Merry Christmas everyone from an un technical minded female

Montana Jim, I'm into coin hunting, searching old homesteads (though not a relic hunter) and beach hunting. We just got hit with a major storm and tomorrow another one is on it's way. Right now I'm reading some books on abandoned communities that I a am dreaming to hunt in the spring.

Anyway Happy Holidays to all my fellow TH'ers out there!!

A color corrected floresent lite with mid and near violets helps alot.

Last winter I hunted all the way to January 25th before record cold set in...this year we have had a sheet of ice covered by snow fall every week...have not been out since December 4th... :(

Hey there Newf, Mom used to tell us stories of skating to school all winter and massive snow tunnels. She said her Mom would cook them each a "podado" in the morning. They would carry it in their mittens to keep their hands warm. They would then eat it for lunch. Mom sure can tell stories about back home. Don't know if this is any help.

Here is a link that could give you some different ideas of types of places to search for. Pretty interesting further down about abandoned places (Mom always talks about Port aux Basques):

Hope you get a lead or two out of these. Good luck to you and take care!

Hey Newfiehunter,
What about Viking sites? There should be plenty on your coast. I am not that familiar with where they landed and inhabited but figure there has to be something good at those sites. I am still trying to find when the welcome home for Stephenville Crossing is. Any idea where I could find that? It isn't listed on their website. Take care and good luck to you!
