Well, meteorites are rocks, but, yeah, it is a bit off topic. But, some of us maintain meteorite collections as well as artifacts, fossils, etc. anyway, this is an incredible coincidence given that a Near Earth asteroid is making a very close pass to earth at about 2:30 PM Eastern time today.
The 2 events are not related at all as they approached earth from different directions. Great footage of today's event at this link. This will be one of the most historic meteorite falls in history, due to widespread damage and injury. It is still unknown if anyone was injured by a direct hit, as opposed to flying glass, but clearly one large brick building was near destroyed.
Amazing cosmic event this morning folks. The Tunguska impact of an asteroid or comet in Siberia in 1908 flattened more then 800 square miles of forest.
