I check coinstar at my Stop N Shop every time I walk by it. Just a quick glance as I stroll by. Nothing obsessive or crazy! The other day I saw a coin that looked foreign so I picked it up to see what it was. The first side looked old and I quickly flipped it to reveal a date of 1863! It had to be a civil war token!!! Note the details on the reverse... peace forever with the hands labeled as north and south! I'm thinking this had to have been made by someone is a union state. I think a call for peace and a handshake by a southerner would be pretty unwelcome in 1863. Who knows how many places this coin has been, but it's probably never been "lost" like the coins we find in the ground. What a find though it will be hard for me to top that but I'll try! This one's going in my display case. The weekend after it I went out before the heat blaze began and chipped away some baked earth to find a well worn 1917 merc. That's a day maker for me. No picture sorry I'm sure you can all imagine what that looks like! Next I was going over some old finds. Check this one: I found this a couple years ago and hung onto it thinking it might be something. I thought it was a hairclip or something and youtube videos made me think it's a pocket knife scale. It had a certain gray look to it and a little baking soda revealed that it's sterling! It was like finding a treasure all over again... a piece of junk took on a new identity! This weekend I went to search a tidal area. Really didn't find anything other than a few wheaties but I did find something I assure you has never been found before: see the picture for the first wall clock cache! I saw this in the middle of a field! Thanks for reading and stay cool out there!
