Anyone know what this was used for ? I imagine it was for pounding something . One end is tapered . I've looked up pictures of mauls but I can't find any that look like this one .

Mojjax does indeed come up with some good what is it's. :)

looks to me like a wedge of some sort..one man would hold it and another would hit it with a big "wooden" hammer... just a guess. ???
It also reminds me of a tool that would be on The New Yankee workshop or simular show. (The one where he only used very old ways to build things) Google search for wood mallets look pretty close but without the tapered end.. ??

cheers

I kept thinking wooden mallet like for carving or leather work... but with both ends being useable and shaped like (cumbersome) that I really think it's more a kitchen tool... like aa battery and kenb said.

Sorry... no real idea.

It seems a little too big to be a shoe strecher.

OK. How's this....a carving mallet.

The other end is a sanding block. Are there small tack or nail holes where indicated on the 2nd pic.? A piece of sandpaper folded over and tacked to both sides.

There are no nail holes - those are just paint splatters .

It may be a stomper for a large meat grinder.Never seen one quite like that but it's close enough to be a good guess.
