Pulled this out of the ceiling at work, it's tin, and obviously a handle for some kind of thing-a-majig.... but what? When I first saw it I thought it was an old oil can spout.....The angle has me confused. There is a star on the end of it, and the building dates to somewhere in the 1860's....

I presume that it is hallow and open at the opposite end of the second photo? It could be a leg to an old medium sized floor heater?

It was just a suggestion, but it looks like may have been attached at an angle?

I'd think most probably a kitchen pot, and possibly from Macy's who used a star logo, and I just found was an older company than I'd previously realized, starting in 1843.

Added: One in this search (upper left) appears to have a very similar handle, but the link doesn't take us to the item for additional pictures. antique macy's tin pot - Google Search

It does look close enough for me. I'll just call it a tin pot handle and let my curiosity be satisfied. Thanks everyone!

Maybe a handle for a dust pan?
