This thing is odd. I almost feel like I should know what it is, but I don't. Found Saturday in Central Virginia, there was also a ca 1900 store on the same property. It is made of pewter or another kind of white metal. It has a round top, partially flattened on a side. Has two pins on the top. Looks like two pieces put together, and on the bottom is what's left of an iron pin in the middle. Thought CW fuse at first, but I can't find a match. Also was a little reminiscent of an old top to a fuel can, but it's not exactly the same. Measures 1.5" across the top and 2" tall overall. I am assuming the "top" is the rounded part with the two pins on it. odd.jpgodd1.jpgodd2.jpgodd3.jpgodd4.jpg

This is the rare series of images where one from a little further off would help.

Yeah, I've got to get the other camera working.

Unfortunately, I can't help you. However, I need to stay off drugs (just joking) because the last and second picture look like a mutant frog, and the first picture looks like the toadstool he was sitting on. :laughing7:

Actually perhaps it is an ancient frog species that turns up at old stores and battlefields. We could call it - mini me! Or Froggus pewtericus horribilis horribilis

Off to find the camera.

NO, whoever made this 100+ years ago is coming back to get THEM! Still don't know what it is.

I'm not 100% sure on this... but it could be the business end broken off a Bormann cannonball fuse wrench - which would be SUPER cool!

Send a PM to TheCannonballGuy. He should be able to confirm or deny.

I still like the frog face. Look at the other post for another item from the same spot. The piece in this thread had an iron "rod" in the center.

Matt, I'm 100% certain it is not an artillery fuze wrench, nor a fuze. I cannot ID it, but I'm sure it's not artillery-related.

Thanks for looking at it. I knew you would know whether or not my guess was correct.

The size and those two cleats sticking out made me think "artillery fuse".

It is still a mystery.

Here's the upside down version. It is definitely made of pewter or lead, it's two pieces fitted together and has an iron rod in the center.IMG_0845.JPG And a pic of the other piece which wont go away.
