OK, so I went to the bank and picked up some coin rolls. I opened up a nickel roll, and I found this right away. It has a very deep red color, and it looks like an incorrect alloy or something. I would like some advice on what it is. It weighs differently than any other nickel.

It is a 1956 Nickel, by the way.

Any ideas about what it is?

That's a typical color of a nickel that has been in the ground for a while.

I have dug up many nickels with the same brown coating from being in the ground For many years. It got severely beat up before it rested in peace in the ground!

An old beat up nickel that has been exposed to the elements and run over.
