1956 nickel. I am not sure what to make of this error. on one hand it looks like a cud and then again as a rpm. But I have never seen an rpm that far away. Appreciate some opinions

It is neither. Lots of times I've found nickels with a little extra metal rolled over the rim like that. Too minor to have and value.
 

I may be wrong but it appears to be a Lamination separation from another coin/planchet that may have stuck to the Reverse die, then got transferred onto the O.P's coin during the Striking/Minting process. If it was much larger and resulted in a Strike Thru Error of details or lettering, then it would have additional value.
