i have a ring that is gold in color with a ruby in it and the only marking on it is inside of the band and it looks to be a hammer? anyone know what this mark means? i have checked books and the only think that comes close to looking like it is a anchor any advide on what it is or could mean would be greatly appreciated.

Can you get a better pic of the mark.......probably would make it easier for ID. Beautiful ring and betting that puppy has some years on it.:icon_thumleft:

yes, try to get a picture of the entire hallmark if you can. does the top "fan out" the same on each side? it almost looks like the greek symbol upsilon to me.

That is a gorgeous ring. Is it one you found with a detector? or some other find?

I looked online a lot and can't find any other jewelry that has a capital Upsilon as its hallmark. I'll keep searching...

Are you sure the stone is a ruby? It looks awfully clean for a natural ruby. They, like emeralds, will usually have a number of inclusions in them.

Looks to me like it might be a Burmese ruby or maybe a bloodstone. It looks to be quite old, especially if it's a ruby because of its color. Most I see today are so pale they almost don't look like ruby...this one is really colorful.

Based on the stone keepers, it looks like wear and may be heavy gold plate on copper/brass.
