Odd grouping of rocks from one hole?

I know nothing of rocks/ minerals. All these came from one hole in PA. Is it anything special ? Or is it man made ?



The large porous one made my detector go crazy between iron and bronze . It looks different than the slag I'm use to.

does seem a little strange not sure what they are but this is a pic of lapis in matrix

Howdy HollySnow,

The flecked one looks like schist. The flecks are mica, probably muscovite. The other rocks look like blue quartz going through them. Blue to ash blue quartz is found throughout the Appalachians. I find many rocks just like the ones you have around North Carolina, and Virginia. Not sure on the black rock. Hope this helps. Just so you will know you might be in a good area for finding Corundum (ruby/ sapphire), beryl ( emerald/aquamarine), garnets, microcline, tourmaline and possibly gold. If you have any creeks around the area I would take my metal detector and a gold pan to see what I might find. I use the Falcon MD20 probe to locate gold in streams in the Appalachians, especially in North Carolina.

I'm in PA. At this point I'd be happy finding anything other than coal or slag... Lol
