It's an ear syringe; circa 1930's. Unusual find, Breezie

Really that's cool! Thanks! Does the syringe come apart like that? Mine looks a little different than the one in the picture. Thanks again.

in the 30's (pre antibotic days ) infections were a serious problem --WW2 did a lot as far as advancing the anti infection meds of the day -- the differance was huge between pre war and post war treatment of infections.

interesting. That would fit into the era of the site where I was detecting. I found a 1915 wheat and a 1939 mercury dime there.

thats why I said something about it -- from the 1900 to the beginning of WW2 medicene was not nearly as "advanced" as it was during & after WW2 --major advances in the medical treatment of infections were made during WW2 and shortly afterwards --namely antibotics like penicillin *

pre war if one got a infection of the ear canal or a "socail disease" of the other part --often it had to be "fllushed" out with various chemicals in hopes too assist the body in fighting off the infection * by reducing the amount of infection thru either "flushing" it out with liquids or "sucking' it out by inserting the tip and pulling back of the plunger -- thus using the vacuum effect to pul lthe infected pus out

quite primative really.
