First glance said brass from India, second glance says I'm with you. What could it possibly be used for? Is it Wood and brass?

Yes , dg39 , it's wood w/brass . It kind of looks like a horse hanes , except it's so small . Did dogs ever get harnessed up to pull carts ?

I saw a piece on the History channel about gas street lights. They had a guy who went around every evening and lit the gas lights. He had a stick similar to this that held a lit brand to get the gas lights going. But I don't see any way to attach something burning to the end of it, unless there is another piece that is missing? Just a wild guess. Monty

Monk....I think thats it...couldnt think of the name...not a horse person myself...that would explain why there are rings on the end, sort of like a whip...

Yes, it has to do with the size of the dogs, and maybe the attachment point of the harness. It's as good as the picture if you scale the thing down to a seven year old's size. The small dogs probably had a chest harness and the pulling point was behind their shoulders. This bar kept them apart and applied pull to the wagon. That's how I make it out.

Doc
this is not the bar it is the crop...whip...there is a head of a dog on it that fits in your hand...the flails are missing....leather strips on other end
