Hello All,

Anybody have an idea on this? It is a steel cutting tool of some sort. Seems to be a pretty good grade of steel, has a very sharp edge. This was found in a thrift store. Whoever had it cleaned it very good, too good actually. Looks like they took a wire brush to it. The blade on it seems pretty thick for a kitchen tool.

Thanks!

I use an ulu in the kitchen .. Mine has a wooden handle, and stays sharp forever!

Had a friend bring a wooden handle ulu back from Alaska when he worked on the pipeline.

I tried to talk him into giving the ulu to me. Didn’t happen.

It makes a great kitchen tool.

I would have id'd it as a nut chopper. I'm looking at one as we speak. My mother used it to chop walnuts. It's the same size and style, only it has a wood handle. I have it on display with the wooden bowl she chopped in.

Ironhorse, I think you have it. Thanks! This is pretty heavy duty, I can see it being used to even cut bone. The handle is attached by six rivets so it was made for heavy work. This was purchased in Washington state so it makes sense that it is a ulu type chopper. Also explains why it was cleaned so much, being a food cutting tool.

Fossick59Tinaroo7Sept1312Small_zpsc07e2ee0.jpgSee some labeled dough cutters. Rivets work loose chopping.Decent style Ulu has none.Worn table saw blade can be used to make a nice ulu.

A dough knife (cutter) is not very sharp like a ulu and usually not as thick (heavy) bladed.

Some dough knives are made out of plastic. They are meant to only cut soft dough.
