Cypress Texas
Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 400
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Late 1800’s to 1900’s store or shop site in East Texas.
Unable to identify after 1 year.
Round approx 2 “ in diameter , hole is OFF center.
Has a double groove and raised center in the center of the groove on the edge of it.
Other side looks as it would be a cap of some kind.
First picture I circled the grooved section ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594860182.392522.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1594860201.174281.jpg

its a cap to a valve box
a pipe that runs verticle underground and sits ontop of water valve so you can shut off water with a long wrench

Looks like the top to an old cast iron string/twine dispensing ball to me.

Maybe the lid to a yellow dog lamp or oil derrick lantern - popular @ the turn of the 20th C.

Yah ready...

Sink stopper.

I looked to see if I could find a picture and did not find one... an now I am second guessing it.

BUT... 1000 % I have seen this exact piece... just not sure now on it.... :/

My guess, is that it's the base of a top finial that goes on top of a cast iron coal/wood stove, its missing the decorative top part.
