My wife found this today. Seems to be some kinda old bullet to me, but I'm unable to find anything close to getting an ID for it. I've got it in the pictures next to a Williams cleaner I found in the same area on a previous trip. If it is a bullet seems to be a smaller caliber that the other and just a bit shorter. Also seems to be an evenly balanced piece so I don't think it was carved into the shape its in. Also its slightly hexagonal at bottom. I'm completely stumped on this. Thanks for any ideas.

I think that is a modern 50 caliber black powder bullet.

Fyrfftyr1 ia correct, your odd-shaped bullet is a modern-era one, made for use in Blackpowder target-shooting and hunting rifles. It is called a Maxi-Ball" and is available in several calibers. That type dates from approxiamtely the 1950s and is still for sale today. See photos below. (The yellow material in the grooves in one photo is a bore-lubricant, like tallow.)

Dang, turned out to be a bullet, but no too old. Thanks all though. Couldn't have done it without ya.
