Found this on one of my beach hunts. Not sure what the composition is; possibly copper. No marks whatsoever. To small to be any kind of tent stake. My best guess would be a sand chess peice. Draw out board on sand to play. This peice maybe being a pawn???? At any rate vary strange. Found it up in dry sand 30 yards from the water. No idea why someone would take something like this to the beach with them.

My first thought was letter opener, but the pointy bit looks too thick. I think it is a modernish souvenir representing some kind of ancient dagger? Very interesting & nice find

It's a phurba dagger. Used for Tibetan buddhist rituals. It could be a repoduction souvineir or ??? There were a few big movies that featured the phurba dagger; "The Shadow" 1994 with Alec Balwin. And the "Golden Child" 1986 with Eddie Murphy. Your dagger does not look like a repro of either movie prop. I would fid someone that knows about ancient religions to check it out for you.

the reason for it being there on the beach? ---- simple they were using it to pin down "bad spirits" by planting it into the ground in hopes of "refocusing" the bad vibes of the evil spirits that have been causing trouble to them into "mother earth" thus making them harmless -- hopefully by removing it --you have have not "released" the bad vibes / demons -- and sorry just putting it back will do no good by the way ---the rite must be done by one who knows how to "lock" the bad spirits down ---a tibetan buddist monk or hindu preist ---(wish I had better news to tell you ) personally I do not know if they are one use items or not --- was it stuck in the ground or just lying on the ground when you found it?

by the way yours is a ---- bhaira phurba ---- a one headed type ---- used by the gubajus (priest, healer, astrologers) of the Newar Tribe of the Katmandu Valley of Napal --- the newra are mainly hindu today ---but were in the past a buddist / hindu mix --- the use for the phurba is to heal diseases , drive out devils, kill demons, consecration of things and places and for meditation --- it is heavily used in healing "rites" ---the head of it can be used for "blessing" esp for fertility rites --- for "healing rites" it use is thus ---the "bad vibes" or illness or evil bothering a person --- is made "phyiscal" by being funneled into into the "blade" of the phurba by the hindu priest --- thus its "bad energy" is trapped within the blade and by being thrust into the ground it is vented into the earth and wasted into the earth ---venting off the evil into the earth which "swallows" it up --- leaving the person seek relief "free" of the evil ---

in the hindu faith is mainly thought of as being from INDIA by most americans (NAPAL BORDERS INDIA) there are 3 "gods" in the hindu faith -- a creator"god" --- a "god" of the living --- and the "destroyer" god named shiva --the face on the dagger is meant to symbolize shiva --"the destroyer"---(thus its ugly look) who thru the actdiscribed above is being asked to destroy the evil -- shiva being the destroyer destroys all things (including evil)-- thus starting the cycle over again --- (creation---life--- death)--- Ivan

I think I might be alright. The reason I was MDing the beach on a Monday morning was my work has been slow. About a hour after digging this guy up (about four inches down just laying there) I got a cell phone call regarding some possible work. Thinking this peice might be a good luck charm of some sort I bought a lottery ticket on the way home and used it to scratch off the ticket. It was a winner. I must have left any evil spirits in the ground.

I have a convinence store close by owned by a family that has many religious Hindu/Buddhist items on the wall behind the counter. Perhaps I can ask them about this item.

great idea to ask the local merchant who knows it might be theirs --- maybe it "pinned" down your bad luck seems to be good "luck" so far for you --- Ivan
