Went relic hunting to another abandoned coal mining camp where the former owner was a business man and resident of Ottumwa, Iowa, and what do I find? A Good For token right out of Ottumwa, over 100 miles away! I wonder if the owner himself dropped this token a mere 400 feet from the hoisting shaft?

Other goodies were found also. 1900 IHP, Yale Lock, buttons, lead seals, etc.

Thanks for looking and good hunting.

Congrats on those finds. Old mining tokens are very nice to find.

Cool mining finds, nice piece of history.

I'm betting you're right, probably dropped by the owner.....By the way, that token reads, "Back of the Ballingall Hotel".
Nice finds! I'm in Ottumwa.........

OMG, I think you may be correct. I'm going to have to microscope it and confirm, but that makes more sense to me. Nice catch, sir.

I lived on Chester Ave until 7 years ago. Still make it down there once a month. Perhaps we could meet up sometime and bang a permission or three, my treat.

My inlaws own a dozen or so single family properties open to me any time.

Sounds like a plan!
Let me know......
