Some French entrepreneurs opened a mining operation to recover this gemmy jasper from an oceanside deposit in Madagascar. Hence the name "ocean jasper." I acquired this piece at a show in France.

It's as if it HAD or insisted on being a Madagascar Masterpiece! Wouldn't have it any other way.

It's so, so....fun and funky..and French:) 8)

Thats the coolest rock ive ever seen, bar none...just wondering was it very expensive?
Good question! Yes, it was expensive. I bought several small pieces because the larger slabs were inordinately expensive -- real decorator items. I got only one piece - above - with the startling green in it.

The French entrepreneurs who were selling the slabs had photos of the mining operation in the surf on Madagascar.

Here's another piece with some less-startling green "eyes."
