IMHO, The premise of Templars having anything to do with Oak Island was a later development from sometime before the year 2000 maybe even shortly after 1976 with the Joan Hope story. The dating of the coconut fibre also had a lot to do with bringing them into the picture.

Thanks for the link. As for poor Captain Kidd, he must have been the busiest pirate in history. Almost every Connecticut coastal town has a local legend of Captain Kidd's buried treasure. If any is ever found, the Captain's heirs will probably be hit with a state tax lien for undeclared income from 200 years ago.

when I read the words "Captain Kidd" my mind thinks "pirates" , or "A Pirate"
and figure in most cases, because they have no idea who, They just assign Blame to Kidd.
Just like today, Every Robbery is Blamed on Druggies, & During the Depression Every robbery was Bonnie & Clyde.
When someone needs to Name a pirate,Kidd comes to mind first.

still only miners and treasure hunters re-digging other treasure Hunters Holes dig as deep as the money pits.

if a pirate buried a Treasure deeper then 6 feet.
he would have been crazy.

their intention was to use it for retirement.
not Fanciful TV shows

It's too bad that all of these treasure legends are mired under so much myth, he-said-she-said, wild and creative fantasy facts, and so on. I'm sure that in all of that huge pile that there probably existed a couple of them with some measure of actual origin but with so much crap piled on top and stirred into the mix one will never truly know.

I do believe most treasure Tales are based on fact. then changed by time.
just like the surroundings.

But most Pirate Treasures are based on Speculation.

in the case of oak Island, I suppose it is possible some pirate thought of it as a Great retirement
spot, and Buried his cut of a raid there
during a fruit, meat and fresh water stop.
or even a ship sinking.

but more then not.
Some Kid was bored or Parent needed a Hole dug for an Outhouse.
And told the Kid the story of Captain Kidd or simply pirates coming to the island.

in the case of the Laginas, it's Brotherly Love, more money then they can ever spend. and the Lure of Fame by being on TV.

I say Big Brother Told Little Brother treasure Tales to Impress him
at an early age.

Little Brother Got the Treasure Hunting Bug.

Now Big Brother needs to keep the fantasy alive.

and of Course The Producers are the Pirates

That still does not explain the trouble of digging a ten foot wide hole to a depth of over 100 feet and lining every ten feet with five or six inch planks and then covering it over. That is not any single pirates treasure and certainly not the work of drunken pirates. This was done by intelligent people for a purpose. What was that purpose? Look to the R.C. for those answers.

There are many perfectly reasonable explanations for that hole at Oak Island but you never hear these being entertained with equal consideration. For instance, and i think it is even referenced in these forums somewhere, there exist a full account of an early mining operation that took place in the same general location. So, why no equal consideration of existing "documented facts" such as this? The answer is pretty darn simple. It is a show for entertainment purposes, and not a show in search of the truth. When people avoid the contrary evidences then it is clearly biased. :icon_thumleft:

There has never been any evidence presented that a 10’ wide hole with oak platforms placed every 10 feet ever existed . This is a fictional story presented by some wishing to obtain relevance and others to obtain money from investors.

Or even a glacial sink hole filled with layers of natural sediment and flotsam (logs, etc.) They abound in Canada.

the biggest joke of all is they would have hit a water table at these depths and needed scuba gear. This island is only 140 acres. I tell you it's aliens that did it, and they'll be spinning another yarn by Ancient Alien Theorists who visited some 'secret' group. Preview of what they will find:

Yup. It's likely that most pirates never even bothered to bury their treasures, preferring instead to spend it as they earned it. Burial would only be done in extreme circumstances, with the expectation of a quick recovery. Interestingly enough, the History Channel has mentioned the very same thing:

Did pirates really bury their treasure? - Ask History

But the pirate treasure trope is sooooooooo 1890. We have better theories today, so no harm, no foul.

Wow Old Thread & I've Given up on Oak Island, On TV & In Speculation.

Due to someone Bringing this Back, I'll give What I Consider a Reasonable Explanation for
a ten foot wide hole to a depth of over 100 feet and lining every ten feet with five or six inch planks and then covering it over.

a Treasure Hunter Digs a Hole to a Specific Depth, Then Places Timbers To Support him & his Tools. and a 10 Foot Ladder.
He or someone else comes along & Figures it's deeper & does the same thing, Digs a Hole to a Specific Depth, Then Places Timbers To Support him & his Tools.and a 10 Foot Ladder Etc. Etc. ya Don't want a 100 Foot Ladder to get in & out.
(or were these Magical People able to Scale Walls Like Ants ?}
Finally they Hit the water table .(it is an Island, Not the Desert) Water Rises , Next Sucker comes Along believes magical hoodoo ant people who can live and tunnel under water, Hold Back the Water Table, Or simply turn it Off till they are Done Tunneling :laughing7:
buried the treasure deeper..and built water traps. Enter TV Producers & Writers.

If you read the "Book of Enoch" you would understand the 100 feet. If you check with the friends of the Sinclair Family, you would find the Engineer that was capable of making the tunnels and the water trap in 1398.

The only reference to "feet" I found was "And they would become powerless before his feet" [1 Enoch 52:6]. Nothing about 100 or even "hundred", though there was one reference fto one of the Angel groupleaders who oversaw "hundreds" and "over fifties and over tens". Nothing about digging holes.

Do you have a specific passage in Enoch? I reviewed it and didn't catch the relevance.

Also, which "foot" measure do you suppose Enoch would have used? The Greek 1/600th of a Stadion (about 11-3/4"), the Hand (about 4") or the Egypitan Cubit (length of the forearm - of the Pharaoh at the time and it changed when he did, around 20-3/4"). The standardized 12 inch "foot" not coming into widespread use until AFTER Edward II (it was longer prior to him - about 13.2 current inches).

Since he was around seven generations after Adam and Noah's grandpa it would have been fairly archaic. Though the oldest "complete" portion of the First Book of Enoch is dated to 300 BC and appears to be from multiple "Enoch" authors who wrote in Ge'ez (old Ethopian). Other scraps were in Aramaic.

Interestingly, though, If Enoch was around two generations before The Flood he would not have used either of those languages - which would have developed thousands of years later (assuming a Flood and that it occurred 3,000 years BC or even longer ago).
