I went back to my heavily hit sight today and still managed to scratch out a decent selection of finds. 8 flat buttons, a bone handle, a rosette and a lead seal? The letters refer to the New York, new haven, and Hartford rail road which is cool. What I want to know is what it actually is. The back has S.A. on it.

Pewter button is not pictured because it is drying in glue right now.

These lead seals were used to secure the doors on railcars to ensure the goods weren't stolen or tampered with in transit.

I worked for a railway for 35 years before retiring so I know a bit about this stuff.....and I actually remember that RR when it existed....lol..

When we lived in Conn., my dad would commute to work (into NYC) on that train.
Apparently, he enjoyed the evening train home since it had a club/bar car.

Bill, you're so old that you probably remember when horses used to pull the trolley cars through Montreal. :laughing7:

Just kidding buddy, hope you're doing well!

Used to work on that line for Amtrak. Worked Springfield to New Haven and then to Westerly. RI. Found a few cool locks. The old guys told that in Mystic the guys were too lazy to bring in the lanterns at the end of shift so they just tossed them in the river !!!!
