Just like a bad penny, I know. Here I go again....I found a rock with holes in it. Same creek as as before, actually just about 15 feet away, But it looks different. The holes are shallow, wide and smooth. (I have found a rock like this before with about 12 holes in it, different creek) Here's some pictures. I'm starting to doubt that this type of hole is the real deal. Look at the rings inside, that looks more like erosion to me.

could this type hole be caused by water dripping? There seems to be alot of confusion on this subject, I want to understand what I find. Can a geologist-type persone explain these as natural?

Thanks for humoring me-
naturegirl.

(I couldn't find the previous thread "post your nutting stones here", can't remember the original poster, is that thread gone?)

Yes Chuck, that is the thread, I wanted to post this stone on that thread, but overlooked it I guess. If a Moderator wants to move my post to that thread it might be more cohesive. Ok, so y'all think this one is real? I had myself almost convinced freezing and thawing made the rings inside the pit, maybe a twisting motion? maybe natural erosion as the stone has sat in the creek-bed for a very long?

Ok, Thanks! guys from Ohio-

I agree with Chuck and Doug, that one looks like the real deal. Great find.

By the way, your Pottery is in the mail. I sent you a bunch of pieces and I even included some Mandan Pottery from North Dakota.

Naturegirl - those are the very classic nutting stone holes that I'm used to seeing. I believe that's a good artifact. Nice find.

Yes, that looks like one to me, too! I found a similar one to yours last year but it was too big to bring home :( . Here's a pic.....No telling what else you're gonna pull out of that creek, Naturegirl  .
