Nut cracker dog

well with the straight slot screw that's a good sign ... Phillips head screws are "newer'... that one looks like its had honest wear and tear so it does appear to look old to me -- older or new it still looks cool ...of course old is better --more collectible ..I'd say "old" but hard to say for sure without a hands on inspection

I'm guessing that it is old but I'm not expert by any means.
India and Pakistan use to put out a lot of brass objects and I'm guessing that where it is from.
Again, I'm no expert but in my opinion it's a nice piece.

Hey there,
As you may know many toys where also made of cast iron way back then. I know a few indicators for authenticating old cast iron toys that could also apply to your dog. First thing is, the makers always took pride in their work. They wanted to make good quality toys, and therefor get more money for them. Today's repros made in Taiwan and China are really cheaply made, and look very hastily put together. Also, old cast iron usually has a smooth feeling, while newer repros have a rougher texture. Another thing is to look at the seams were the two sides meet. If the seam is jagged and the pieces don't line up, it's most likely a repro, because again, old cast iron pieces were made well.
But just like Ivan said it's hard to tell without looking at it in person. Plus, these are general guidelines, and there can be pieces out there, old or new that don't fit these guidelines.
Hope that helps some.

....

Thanks for the info all the seams seem pretty nice and it is overall pretty smooth. I did noticed that on the bottom of the stomach there seemed to be some sort of small label it looks to have turned black and fallen off I attached a pic

The label, being that it's mostly gone, and the remainder is worn black, could prove it to be older. New repros just have an ovular sticker that says made in china that fall right off and don't leave marks like on your dog.
I would guess it's from 1950 or before, but that's just an educated guess.

Yes, it does look like painted cast iron. Some nuts in the mouth is always a good thing and my wife likes tea bagging.

Wow ! Did you really have to go there ? Lol. On the second read of your post, you said your wife likes tea bagging. You didn't say that she likes to be tea bagged. That leads me to beleave that she also has nuts. You may or may not want to edit your post. I won't judge you if you don't. I just won't reply to your threads. Lol.

Instead of crushing nuts with the dogs mouth, you would use it to squeeze tea bags over a cup.
Where is your mind at ? :)
