Numismatic headlines Id like to read...

"US Mint reveals all half dollars struck since 1971 are, in fact, 98% silver."

If we are diving into the world of total fantasy then I would like to hear the copper used in the clad is actually .9999 pure gold.

Why? Then it would be worthless.....

True. Supply and demand. Econ 101.

Remember when they released bags and bags of a particular mintage of Morgan dollars a decade or so ago? A valuable coin became worthless overnight.

the world produces around 680 million ounces of silver a year. Say 25 million clad halves were minted each year, from 1971-2000, at half an ounce each approximately that would be about half the yearly production. That would drop the price of silver I would say!

"The Federal Reserve announces that all banks will be shutdown and everyone's accounts are now property of the Federal Reserve System"

:notworthy:

And they produced more, than 25 million a year. Some years 100 million.

Yea right. The only way the Feds stay on tops is by taking advantage of people's stupidity. If you actually took everyone's money all AT ONCE. You'd have a mob storming the banks and the Feds would be trying to hide behind there desks.

Sorry... musing after my 9th skunk box. And ditched work today. Hit about 10 local banks in search of CWR's ... got 10 bucks in clad from 1 bank ... think the rest are holding out on me... oh well... another box tomorrow ...

Uh, I believe most of the banks in this country closed at the start of the great depression, people were upset and NOTHING happened. It took place once it could take place again.

Wait pre 1971 halves are not silver? I suppose i'll go cash in my rolls of 1960's half dollars that are only worth $.50

This is one I would like to read: Shield pennies suck, will not longer be made.

Will it say how low it has to be to meet eligibility?
