Now What?

We recently, moved and during the down sizing process my wife thru out all my dive logs. My books included, Salvage Diver, Rescue Diver, Cave Diver, Cavern Diver, Equipment Specialist and three proficienty/renews. The real kick in the pants is my dive instructor died. Most of my speciality certificates is thru MDEA. I have over 2,000 hours logged! When, I was in college, I needed additional credit hours. I needed a refresher course and opted not to pay the $150.00 renewal card but got my log book signed for the same. I had 500 more hours logged than my instructor. I somehow got recuited in teaching the class. I was honored and helped in any way. The fact is, The only certification I own is my basic card and advanced card. What do I do now?

Build a relationship with a dive center who will see your skills and trust you. They will help you rewrite a log book in an honest way. Been there before, Boone. Hope this helps.

I live in the middle of the shooting match. These freshwater divers are differ from us salt water divers. Each situation has its terms. " I am at a lack of words". Depth is an issue in my area. the thearmalcline is a factor here. Its hard to explain, I have found natural caves and areas that need explored. Once the water gets cold, my co-diver dissapears. I , once, dived a natural lake with our chief of police. I found a cave, or natural indention in a natural lake."Cavern". Being, the equipt diver, I drove a stake and released my cave diving rope and equipment. I was told loud and clear thru a regulator, to stop. Diving with me requires fortitude. I AM NOT A BABYSITTER, I have a fellow diver that is not certified or qualified. When we dive, He is the only person in my world. If he goes his own way, I know he his at the surface or a few knife bangs away from my tank. At this point, we have a new dive plan.

In the pilot world, If a pilot has lost his/her flight logs then you get a notorized statement swearing to the fact that you have x-number of flights, hours,landings, approaches ect. Anything that will back it up such as company training records helps. You could probably do the same with a dive log. By getting it notorized it becomes a legal document attesting to your experiance.

I did that once and I still ended up paying for 16 years... but for the last payment, I gave her a box on unrolled, mixed up coins... nearly $500.00 in pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters etc and I threw in a bunch of Canadian coins as well...

It was "legal tender" biggest smile on my face I think I ever had...

Yeah, I know... I can be a jerk sometimes.

Don't throw out your wife. Do the best you can to reproduce your logs. Get copies of all your certs. People will understand. How about the dive shop where you get your tanks filled. Might they have a general idea of how many "fills" you have gotten over the years?
