Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

Hi all, Was cleaning out the closet today and opened up a mason jar full of wheats. I checked my logs to get a count on them. In this picture is a little over 700 wheaties. They all have been found using the dfx in the last 3 and a half years.

Not pictured is about 25 key date one's. I don't get alot of mint marks here in p.a on the wheats. I only avg about one good one per 30 wheats I find.

Just wanted to share another pic with you all.

HH Jer

Wow!!! Jer,,, that's a lot of wheaties, WTG!!!
I've only found about ( 60 ) for last year,( about six months ), my rookie year, and have found ( 117 ) sofar for this year...
Their starting to get a lot harder to find, so I don't think I'll end anywhere near your totals...
Good luck & Happy hunting~

Cool. Pour some cream on there to make cream of wheat.

Re: Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

Thanks everyone, The only thing that isn't hard to find any more is the cheap pennies the government makes nowadays and pulltabs. Even wheats and silver are hard to find in a abundance at one location. People have done good over the last 25 yrs around here. I'll continue to use top end detectors when they come out. I'll use that as a slight edge to find stuff. I will also continue to search the city and pick up ever little bits they left behind.

Yeah there are a few half a wheats in this pile. Keep searching DD. Get to a older park somewhere or old lawn. There out there still. If your not finding any. Not to be mean but your unit may not be able to find them at the depth's they get. Or maybe you just haven't stumbled upon a hot spot yet.

Good luck all HH Jeremy

That would make a great puzzle, Jer. It's neat how they're all different colors.

The wheaties I find around here are almost always 5.5 inches deep.

That's funny! Nice pile of wheaties,i've only found about 50 or so total in a little over 2 years.I think that in certain parts of the country it's easier to find older coins than in other parts.I find it pretty hard to find older coins down here in S.Fl..With the exception of a few privately owned areas i've hunted,i've probably only found a couple dozen coins older than 1940-50's era down here locally. I do travel around the state to small towns ,that have some history to them.I think there's too many detectorists down here. :D Not really! There's plenty of room for everyone. :) Maybe I just need a better detector???????Good luck and H.H.

Re: Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

Oddly enough, I've found several (3-4) that had been snipped in half, but I've always found the non-date side. And they were all cut top-to-bottom, never side-to-side. Maybe we should fund a team to look into this malicious and thoughtless Wheatie-massacre? :D

Re: Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

Excuse the ignorance......but why are they called 'Wheats' ?

Cheers From a Kiwi

Re: Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

The "wheat" in Wheats refers to "Wheat-backs", so named because of the two wheat ears on the reverse of the coin. Minted from 1909 to 1958.

Re: Now here's a pile of wheats you gotta see.

thats enough wheats for a career much less 3 and 1/2 years!excellent!!
