Detector(s) used
Minelab xterra, Whites DFX, Notka Makro Simplex. Folks the price don’t mean everything, the question is are you willing to put in the time to learn the machine, experience will pay off I guarantee it.

I’m not going to complain even if I wanted to folks, please for 250.00 this machine. Is much more than most and more than entry level. It’s not meant to have minelab adjustments etc or it would cost more. So I’ve used open parks, fields, coastline and rugged wooded areas. It performs very well, look regardless of what machine your tones and vdi will not be perfect. It’s the real deal for the price.

I've heard nothing but good reports on it! Big Gold!:occasion14:

I’ve been very pleased with my Simplex. I bought it after having a Whites DFX for years. My vision declined and the DFX was difficult to manage so I sold it while it was still a desirable detector and got the Simplex as an “in between“ detector till I found my next detector to replace the DFX. What I found out was the Simplex is way more than I imagined.....now I can’t put it down long enough to buy my next detector. I’m fairly certain I’ll buy an Minelab Equinox 600/800, I’m also preparing myself for the realization that my next detector that will cost twice or three times as much won’t reflect that in perspective to the lower priced Simplex. Overall I’m glad I had the Simplex to get back up to speed on everything that’s changed since I bought the DFX in 2004. I can’t imagine anyone not being happy about the purchase of a Simplex...it’s above its weight class in performance!
Happy Hunting in 2021!

The Simplex is a bit of a double-edge sword for me. Its a very well priced machine that has all the features of a higher priced machine without the high-end performance.
I know Simplex says you can't compare us to a >$500 dollar machine and I understand that argument but they are almost in a class of their own by making their machine almost a homage to the Equinox/Deus its hard not to compare them to the big boys and that is really for me where the Simplex falls short.

However if I only had $300 dollars to spend the Simplex checks a lot of boxes in what most people are looking for in a metal detector. I personally would have liked to seen the Simplex come with a stock 9" coil and I wonder if the performance wouldn't have been improved during my tests and use of the the Simplex. With a 9" coil my expectations of depth would have been lower and I wonder if the separation wouldn't have been just right. I understand my judgement is clouded because I've seen what really stable VDI at depth looks like and really good iron separation is on the Equinox and Deus.

That was my personal experience I ran it side by side thru my test garden with the ORX and there were coins in the 8-12" range that I couldn't hit on any settings with the Simplex that the ORX had no trouble hitting even in program 3 aka Deus Fast which is pretty much what I run 95% of the time stock settings.

Additionally if you told me that you didn't need a water-proof machine I might be more inclined to recommend another machine in the <$500 dollar price range. I have not used the Makro Racer 2 but it kills me they may have stopped making that series of detectors as I really wanted to give one a run and you don't see them come up for sale used very often and I haven't seen much comparisons to the Makro Racer series of machines to the Simplex, but what I have seen the Racer 2 was fast and deep. Also for my money the original Red Racer was probably the coolest looking machine I have seen.

For now the <$300 dollar the Simplex is Top Dog though.
