I went to the banks early this morning. Hated to do it but I had to tell a bit of a lie to get a box of halves ordered. I got a teller I hadn't dealt with before and started by asking for two boxes of dimes and followed up by asking if I could order a box of halves for a promotional event "my store" was having. I do have an ebay store... and I have thought about taking halves to the gun show... but technically a lie I guess. Anyway, got my first ever box of halves ordered and will be in next thursday. Both boxes of dimes were 2012 so I deposited them down the road. None of my other banks that were open would sell me dimes today though, really sucked.

LOL a good story, but I bet you can't get away with a weekly "promotional offering" :laughing7:

I travel for work so I really can only make two orders before i'm back to work. I only get sundays off so normal banking hours won't be available to me.

They have turned me down for the last 4 weeks of my pto, they either say its impossible to order halves or they aren't able to. Out of curiosity I represented myself as a business owner instead of a coin collector and wouldn't you know it, the order was placed.

I've found that there are ways to turn a no into a yes. I do occasionally tell a slight lie, but it has to be a lie that will allow me to continually order. I never want to get into a one-off order. I'm trying to set up supply channels for the long haul.

I turned a no into a yes yesterday without any lying. I do most of my weekly ordering from one chain of banks. When I first started a few weeks ago, I was ordering from a couple branches that are pretty far from my house since those were the branches that offered to order without me asking them to. I've found that it is a pain to drive to pick up the coins from these branches on my lunch break. Yesterday, I stopped at a branch of the same bank that is right near my office. I asked if they could order me halves and they said "no". I said: "Ok, well really another branch of this bank orders them for me, but this branch is more convenient for me to pick up from" The teller then went in to the order sheet and said: "Oh, look at that I can order them. How many do you want?" I'm not sure if the teller truly didn't know she could order them or if she was being lazy. Either way I got what I wanted without lying or being a jerk. Sometimes it pays to be firm and persuasive without being rude.

Tlowery, when you get those solid date dimes, try swapping them for cwr. Sometimes banks have them but don't have enough to sell them to you. But when you've got the nice mwr to trade they will usually work with you. My best dime scores come from cwr.
