Found this threaded brass thing about six inches down. It's 2 1/2" long and has a 1/4" hole in that runs the length of it. Reminds me of a porcelain knob and tube wiring tube, but it can't be for electrical use. Any ideas?

I'm uncertain as to what it is, but that tip looks like you would slide a hose over the barb... maybe?

It's the inside of a fitting for a gas bottle. Oxygen, welding gas, propane.
