Got out with Tony for a full day of detecting. We avoided the "beat" sites and concentrated on finding new sites. The first site was one I got permission for last week. After hunting for about an hour we finally found the site. I eyeballed the musket flint in the cut down wheat and then started noticing the pottery and brick. Targets were plentiful including a real nice button (when it's cleaned), a saddle tag and I was thrilled to pull out the Spanish silver...half reale!! That's my third Spanish silver this summer...making up for the past 2 years without.

Second site was a door knock and a sketchy land owner. He gave us permission after some smooth talking and the target started coming. Lots of coppers and relics. Picked up the silver cufflink and the trench lighter along with a handfull of other relics.

All in all it was a decent day!

That will be a nice button when cleaned! Congrats on the silver Romeo!

What's your technique for smooth talking a sketchy land owner?

Great...thanks for the info...I've been straining my eyes trying to get a date!

While the date on your 1/2R may not be legible, it can be dated to either 1789 or 1790; the only years Carolus IV (versus Carolus IIII) appeared on the 1/2R.
Don.....
