I bought $20 in cents from a local bank. All of the rolls looked quite old. After examination it appears that none of them was wrapped after 1973. I scored 73 wheats with all of the 40's and 50's represented (except 1943). Two older wheats showed up as well: 1920 and 1936.
So I went back to the bank and inquired about more. The teller came in and said "some old lady brought in her husbands coin collection, all pennies". I offered to buy them but the teller said the remaining $100 in cents had already been broken down into bags to be sent out. After some discussion he agreed to sell them to me with his manager's approval on Monday morning.
Of course I'm hoping to score a few hundred wheats and am dreaming about the prospect of some indian heads or flying eagles. I'll update on this tomorrow.
P.S. One of the other tellers gave my youngest son a dateless buffalo nickel.
It was a good day.
Happy hunting.
