'Nother Whatzit for y'all...

I think it might be a one-dram apothecary weight for a balance scale, but I dunno for sure. The symbol looks similar to, but somewhat different than, the ancient symbol for "dram".

The symbols look raised in my pictures, but they are incuse.

I agree: it looks like a 1 drachm apothecary weight, all right, although the symbol is a bit stylized.

I was thinking it was a mah jong game piece. I've seen my wife play mah jong on the computer and it kinda looks similar.

PBK- you're a wizard- those photos of that old scale clinch it- it is what I thought it was. Dunno why I didn't think to check eBay for old scales.

Willie D- the mah jongg theory is a good one- I hadn't thought of that. But usually the antique mah johng tiles I have seen were ivory- I had a 1920s set once that I inherited from my grandmother- it was quite beautiful. However, even if there were mah johng tiles made of metal, I think this would be a bit too small for that.
