All Treasure Hunting
Had the machine for about a month and a half now and am very pleased. Machine is a bit deeper than I initially thought frankly and is a jewelry fiend. I've dug coins at 10" on the last two trips, found a very thin early shotgun shell cap at 11-12" Saturday in a small spot I'd absolutely scoured with my explorer after I pulled a merc there. My set up is as follows.

-Search in single frequency 2.5 for coins, 7.5 KHZ for relics, have frequency short cut ready to go on the quickbar, switch to 3 freq to pinpoint and investigate all deep signals. The pin point mode is what sets these machines apart and dictates whether I dig or not. I may even try hunting in the All metal channel on some sites where the relics are deep. Seems getting centered over the target w/PP then switching back to disc gives the best ID. Wish PP was always in 3 frequency but not a huge deal to swap it.

-Like any detector, for depth use as little disc as possible. I Rely on tones whether I investigate a signal further. I do tend to disc out ferrous when coin hunting. I run my program out of "demo" mode so best data is utilized. Audio isn't the greatest I've used but am beginning to hear a difference between small shallow trash and a solid small ring type targets of a similar VDI.

-Played w/lower gain but on the 3 or 4 spots I'm hunting 12-13 is working where EMI permits. Target ID's aren't super stable but I'm making deep finds and PP tells me whether to dig or not. Disc I'm running between 90-95 except one area w/high EMI. Haven't seen any reason to change RD, I believe im running at 80. When I get the 6x10 coil this week, I may adjust it then.

-Using the 950 coil and for open areas and its a great coil. I mentally note each sweep and overlap half a coil width. Have a 6x10" coming.

-I manually GB often, it takes less than 6-7 seconds usually. Machine will give a few clues if its needed, or if I make certain adjustments I do it to be safe...I use lock trac.

-I have more testing to do in areas with more Iron, relic mode is in correlate while Hi Pro (best data) has a factory setting of Bottle Cap reject at +1 May check some older house sites and see which performs better. The bottle cap reject made a big difference on the XLT, though +1 isn't a drastic amount.

Thanks

Interesting notes. I would be interested on how the 6X10 works. I just got one but will probably be spring till I get to try it out.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the notes post.

I have the V3i and love all the control over the machines settings. Like the VX3, it hits hard on jewelry and coins. I enjoy White’s products and their customer service is great!

Regards,

You will like the coil. I was working a high trash area last spring with mine and got a '47 Washington quarter on edge at about 8". I would consider that excellent depth on the 950 or D2 so I was pretty stunned with the 6x9. The really cool thing was that I was working along a chain link fence when I made the find.

Real good to know. I have read many forums and most everyone likes the 6X10. I also have the 4X6 and it is a killer in trashy areas.

I have the 950,d2,6x10, The dd coils really woke my VX3 up in my area. I mainly use the 6x10 now. I only use the 950 at the beach. Good luck

New to the vx3 and could use all the tips i can get! Thanks, 420cmagnum
