I recently bought a fun box at an auction, and there were several
c1935-1940 8x10 glossy photos marked on the bottom
'Paramount Pictures'
some have names on them, such as Sandra Storme, Carole Landis,
Wanda McKay and others, but these I have no idea who they are!!!
(plus I think alot of actresses of this time period looked alot alike)
I think 1 and 6 might be Marlene Dietrich.
I love old movies, but this is a little beyond me.

I agree of course that #1 and #6 are the same person with that cute little upturned nose... but I think Marlene Dietrich was bustier, or more busty... um - not that I was looking. ::)

See this site: http://www.moviemaidens.com/

I woulda tried to help more but I kept looking at pictures of Natalie Wood and used all my time up. :P

Montana Jim, you're so naughty!

Frankly, I remember my mother talking about these old stars back when I was a kid in the 1950s. So sad we no longer recognize them. I love the ooooold movies from the 30s when these stars were active. The films themselves were grainy and sound tracks tough to listen to, but the screenplays were so much better than today. You had to read faces and mannerisms to figure out the characters. So much LESS was said, but you understood SO MUCH more. I miss those. I wish I recognized more of them.

Wanda Mckay, Sandra Storme and Carol Landis were all film stars in the early 30's and 40's. Carol Landis committed suicide in 1948. Great finds :) you can google search each name and see pics > putting the name with the face ;)

solved!

thanks to

though I think I sent them to him in a different order..

Thanks for your question, Julia. A very interesting quiz.

Here are the ones we can perhaps identify. The first photo attached to this email is definitely a shot of Maxine Reiner (in the polka dot suit) and Dolores Casey (in the suit with white stripes). The next photo is probably Wendy Barrie (not quite as sure of that identification), and the last photo attached may be Margaret Lockwood (about 50% sure --- we have a photo of Margaret Lockwood in that same swimming suit, although starlets often shared swim suites for publicity photos). The last two photos attached MAY be the same actress (her hair and profile are very similar) but we are unable to identify her. These are all very typical of the publicity photos taken regularly of all the starlets under contract during Hollywood’s Golden Age, and the numbers on some of the photos may be a clue. The first number is the number given by the studio to the movie for which the photo was taken, and the second number is the number of the photo in the series. We don’t have a list of the Paramount movie numbers handy, but if we find out anything else we’ll let you know.

I hope that provides some of the information you need. Please continue to visit our website often, and use our links to Amazon.com whenever you need to purchase a book, DVD, CD, or anything else.
