I found this in a wooded area on my property in Northern VA.
It seems to be some sort of lid. To what I'm not sure.
Has anyone seen something like it?
The initials are QRS

Pretty sure it's a lid from an old pipe, and probably a fairly ornate one.

It looks like the end cap to a player piano roll. I had a 1928 Kohler & Campbell upright player piano and all of the antique rolls were made by QRS. I can't take a pic of it because it is at my daughter's house, but will try to find a pic online.

breezy,you may be on to something.I dont see that shape on the rolls themselves,but perhaps the reciever.I'll look after work.

Definitely the right company, the way the "R" is shorter than the Q or S.

I contacted QRS. Here's what they said:

that is a cover for a lock, many pianos had locks on them to lock the lid or keyboard cover.

I'm marking this as solved, but if anyone has a picture of one of these I'd love to see it.
