Not sure what this is. Buckle? Harness? Part of a trap??

Found this at a 1700's/early 1800's site. it was fairly deep and im not sure what it is.

it has some shape to it...that's what the 3rd photo is showing.

Looks like a strap or harness buckle

That is part of a harness...no part of a trap for sure

Looks like the cinching portion of a horses bridle or halter.

It is a harness buckle as others have said, specifically a trace buckle.
