I don't think it's gun related. What ever it is, it looks like water has seeped into it, then froze, splitting it wide open.

Maybe part of a lighter, with the stuff inside to hold the fluid (or whatever the wadding inside old lighters does).

My guess would also be a capacitor

Ammietuar,
Great job locating that symbol, looks very similar to the brass casing. I don't think I'm going to be putting the stuff inside on any cracker though:). The inside seems to be a compressed fabric or paper like substance impregnated with metal or metallic flakes, maybe its asbestos because I haven't found any paper left on any shot gun shells. Thanks
BoznMate,
I originally thought it might be ammo because I have seen brass covered shot gun shells. I didn't think of the water expansion possibilities, the item was found in Florida on old dead orange grove land so I am thinking that the damage might have occurred due to tractors. Thank you for your response
Taz & Ace,
I believe you maybe correct, I have never opened a compactor before but the inside does look like something electric related now that you have said that. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER, THANK YOU
