I found this in Humphreys County TN in a dry creek that leads to the Buffalo River. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

It could be a thumb scraper or a small Cob knife, either unfinished, or quickly made piece for temporary use, doesnt really look finished.

I was thinking a blade due to the base doesn’t look complete.
Thank you for shareing your knowledge I appreciate. Is the base the big end? I'd be glad to post more detailed pics.

It is flint, keep checking the area after a good rain more may show up.
Unfortunately I no longer have access to that property but I'm always keeping my eyes open.

I believe is some kind of hardened glue. There are uneven raked over sections with globs at it's edges.

I'd say it's a preform of chert and not a glob of glue at all.
All the back roads in Humphreys county are chert. I've changed many a tire because of it.

Yes the wide end is the base missing the top which would be the tip. Blades could of been used as knifes or cutting tools like scrapers. Some were preforms for points which show no use wear others show they were sharpened and used. I have found both types. Without having the tip it would be just a guess to know if it was a knife or blade. Good luck out there

Thanks again. Learning the terminology and use is a great help. I appreciate it.

For what it’s worth….

I’m seeing a hinge fracture in the circle which would put the strike in the direction of the arrow… that would make it a big flake they went back and shaped farther.

A little more wild speculation Maybe that hinge kind of weakened the tip and made it unworkable or broke off, so they flipped it around and used it for a scraper?

I'm glad I re-read your post!!!

I thought it said "Big Fake". I thought it seems awefully odd that someone would go through the trouble of making a fake then hauling it out to the woods and depositing it in hopes that someone might find it.

I should put my glasses on :)

I know I've said it alot since I've come back to TNet but I'm truly amazed at the knowledge that lives here. Thank you for sharing it.
