That was very systematically done. But I don't think a penny will make much of a finger ring. Size 3 or 4 maybe. Not only why done, but also why there.

The small size has me stumped. The whole thing is a puzzle. It almost looks too even to be done with a chisel and hammer??
I will try to get my tripod out so I can get a clearer picture this evening. Gotta go shoot a pistol match right now.

I think a very thin sawblade--bansaw? Pretty precise, but not so much as I first thought. Get a clearer photo of the penny and maybe we can guess from the date and the wear when it might have been done.

Defiantly done with wire cutters . likely out of boredom I have actually done that exact thing for the heck of it.

Thanks R.L. Wire cutters never occured to me.
If I had been that boared when I was 15...I would have been blind by 17.
