Like many of you I have been using the new Equinox almost exclusively for the last 6 months or so and my XP Deus has been collecting dust. Today I busted out the XP and took it to the Dead Zone, a park that has suffered the violations of thousands other detectorists over many decades, not the least of them me. I have been over this ground with the Nox about 10 times and made some fair finds. I set up the XP in HOT program, 7.8 htz, dropped reactivity to 2.5 and listened for any faint high tone mixed with the low tone of the ground effect, only digging deep targets. At 8 inches in dry ground I found this silver thimble. I was blown away. This is the first silver thimble I have found in many years so don't forsake the Deus, it just slammed the Nox. That thing is beautiful.....congrats.

JEALOUS! I never found one of those. I have never used that program. I apparently need to experiment a little with my Deus. Having the Deus already, I bought a Nox but it didn't do as well in our hotter than hades ground around here so I sold it.

Today I discovered something new about the Deus. I was at a salt water beach, there was a king tide a few days ago. Anyway, I was using Deus Fast at 74 khz and tracking balance. I generally do dry sand to cover a lot of territory.

I simply used the plus sign to get it to wet beach program. I was shocked! In the old version 4.0 it frankly didn't do well at all at a wet beach in that mode. That's what I was going to use the Equinox for, but I don't go that often, so decided to part with it. But NOW I'm retired and can play more!

Anyway, because others on the forum here were annoying me beyond redemption (actually a good thing), I upgraded to 5.2.

Today, with the wet beach that thing rocked! I pulled out a gold chain, tons of sinkers and coins and bling at DEPTH with NO CHATTER!

That version 5.2 is a game changer! I was seriously thinking about getting something else this week solely for salt water tidal pools, but I already have it! When Dorian passes east of us I'll probably hit the Delaware coast for the shipwrecks.

I have heard the 5.2 version took care of the salt water problems and I should upgrade from 4.0 but I have a Mac computer which has complicated things. I like the way the upgrades are free and the xp is very versatile but easy to mess up with. Anyway it is nice to hear from you I have followed your exploits and only wish I had the chance at older ground here in the states. As it is I travel to England every fall for a week on the fields of Essex. Nothing like finding a thousand year old coin to spoil you.

Great find Ive found mant thimbles never a silver one I just saw a tnetter get a banner for a Gold one.I also have found enough spoons and forke to feed a town none silver but I will eventually. There is no one perfect detector different conditions mineralization ect. Glad you did well sounds like your Deus is wanting to get back out !!!!!! Well done Tommy

I have had three PI machines over the years. Each was for a specific dig, and each in turn got sold. I should have stayed with what I had at that time.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Very cool ornate silver thimble. Congrats!

Nice thimble.....still on my bucket list.

Wow, thatโ€™s a beautiful silver thimble. I found one earlier this year and it is one of my favorite finds of 2019. Looks like you worked for that beauty. Congrats!!!

What a pretty little thing is that silver thimble! Have you done any research to estimate its age?
