I know it's a whistle. I've been looking to try and get a date range. I've seen some similar mid to late 1800's on a DuckDuckGo image search. Found in an 1850's through 1940's schoolhouse yard. Pretty sure it's brass. Any ideas on age?

Thanks, I sent the pics and description to the website owner to see if he has any idea. I let it soak in peroxide all day, couldn't believe how much more dirt came out of it. Washed it up with soap and water and dried it out. Darn thing still works! No makers mark, just a decorative line running around by the top and mouthpiece.

It's a really neat piece. Just the sort of thing I was hoping to find. Items lost by the students over the years.
